Sanibel & Captiva Islands (and Sanibel real estate) will be affected by new insurance rules. ON Jan. 13, 2012, Citizens posted new guidelines for homes on barrier islands. One year from now, they will stop writing wind policies for homes with a reproduction of construction cost of over $1 million.
Insurance should still be available through E &S (Excess and Surplus) carriers like Lloyd’s of London. The result will likely be higher costs and slower service.
